Car Outline with Tires Visible on Highway

Why rotate your tires? What does rotating your tires do? We hear these questions almost everyday! The simple task of moving each tire from one wheel to another extends the life of your tires by making them wear more evenly. Regular tire rotations can

  • Help you net better fuel economy
  • Extend the lifespan of your tires
  • Provide better traction on slippery Lebanon roads
  • Make for a quieter ride

Having your tires rotated at the Auffenberg Nissan service center should be part of your routine maintenance. Learn why with our team!

How Often to Rotate Tires?

Most manufacturers recommend rotating your tires every six months or every 5,000-7,000 miles, depending on your driving habits in Mascoutah.

Whether your car is a Front Wheel Drive or Rear Wheel Drive will make a difference on how you rotate:

  • For FWD, move the rear tires to the front and flip them. The left rear tire should go on the right front wheel. When you move the front tires to the back, keep them on the same side.
  • For RWD, move the front tires to the back and flip them. The left front should go on the right rear wheel. When you move the back tires to the front, keep them on the same side.
  • For AWD or 4WD, check your owner’s manual or contact our service center. Some manufacturers recommend rotating in an “X” pattern while other follow the same tire rotation pattern as RWD.

If you use your vehicle on rough roads near East St. Louis, you should consider rotating your tires more often.

Tire Alignment

What Happens if I Don’t Rotate My Tires?

There’s really no excuse to not rotate your tires, since you can ask our technicians to do it during an oil change or other routine maintenance. If you neglect this basic maintenance, at best your tires will wear unevenly. You’ll find yourself replacing individual tires sooner than if you properly maintain them. This expense adds up. It could be worse, though.

Tires that are wearing unevenly because they haven’t been rotated can lead you down a slippery slope to:

  • Flat tires and blowouts
  • Rapid deterioration of brake pads
  • Poor traction and skidding on the roads
